Gemstone and wood workshop

Your own gemstones & hammering, screwing, sawing

Everyone works together at the large workbench in the middle of the room. For stonework, we have a professional stone grinding machine, grinding pads, chisels, hammers, polishing materials, etc. For woodwork, a drill press, children's saws, small hammers and nails are essential. Everything is child-safe, of course, and safety goggles are mandatory.

But how do the children get their hands on the precious gemstones?

The Millstätter Alm, also known as the Schatzberg, is home to the largest garnet deposit in the Alps. On Mondays, Andrea invites everyone to join her on a garnet stone hike from the Lammersdorfer Hütte to the Jufenkreuz. Along the way, the children discover garnet stones (semi-precious stones). In the gemstone workshop, the children work with Andrea to polish the garnets they have found and make a beautiful necklace with a personal gemstone. They learn all about minerals, how to polish them correctly, how to use the tools safely and about the various jewellery-making tools.

You can also find garnets and other interesting stones while snorkelling in our sandy bay at the Villa Postillion am See. So keep your eyes peeled and start collecting!

Gerolf loves working with wood. He will saw, screw, drill and hammer with the children and design small wooden works of art with them. Which wood is soft, which is hard? He will playfully show the children the right way to work with wood and give them tips and tricks.
